Head Coach Laura Harvey and Defender Ryanne Brown
Head Coach Laura Harvey
On scoring more goals earlier this season than last season:
“I think we’ve been brave. I think we’re being a bit more ruthless in front of goal. I just think it’s something that obviously, we didn’t want to run over again this year after last year. I think the Washington (Spirit) game, the first game of the season, was an example of us looking like it was déjà vu. So, we hit the nail on the head there pretty quick and since then, we’ve done a good job of taking our chances, but we know that you have to create them and you have to continue to be consistent in that.”
On being in a good position in the UKG NWSL Challenge Cup:
“Our schedule, specifically since the start of the season, has been rough. We’ve traveled the most, we’ve been everywhere, so I think we see this game and the Houston (Dash) game sort of the end of a really tough period for us. But the players have been digging in and working really hard to put on performances and getting results. Obviously, Saturday’s performance wasn’t exactly what we wanted but we were proud that we were able to come back. I think we need to set the tone again tomorrow, trying to win your home games is always important so that’s sort of where we set our standard for tomorrow night’s game.”
On Angel City FC conceding a goal at the last minute against the Portland Thorns on Saturday:
“Anyone who can go to Portland (Thorns FC) and score three goals, you would think would come away with a result, but I think they’re obviously dangerous off set pieces, scored an early goal and then Portland worked their way back into it. I think that Angel City, they’re a good side, they play good football, scoring goals has maybe been the thing they haven’t, maybe, hit the nail on doing yet, but they did on Saturday night. So, I’m sure that they’re going to lean on that in their preparation for this game.”
On if she has an update on the players who have been missing games:
“No real update, no real change. We do like to rotate but we don’t have many to rotate currently, unfortunately.”
On how midfielder Luany is feeling:
“She is really close – may get some minutes tomorrow night, which will be fun.”
Defender Ryanne Brown
On being back home and preparing to play at Lumen Field again:
“It feels good to be back home. Come tomorrow, I feel like it’s going to be really nice to play in front of all the fans at Lumen. It’s just a different feeling, different atmosphere that I think really drives us. So, I think it will be good.”
On playing Angel City FC again in a short period of time:
“I think it’s definitely just important to learn from that first game, just keep momentum on some of the things that we did well. Since we won that game, I feel like we have some momentum there, but I feel like it’s also important that we just continue to stick to the plan that (Head Coach) Laura (Harvey) and the rest of the coaches have for us, just to try to get another positive result.”
On transitioning coming back from Denmark:
“Denmark was great. It was a really good opportunity for me to go and learn and develop. I feel like I was able to get some games under my belt, which I think was really beneficial and I definitely feel, coming back here, a lot more comfortable. So, I definitely think it paid dividends.
