Midfielder Natalie Viggiano

On her overall Draft Day experience:

“Yeah, so I was sitting watching with my family and I got a call from Laura and I remember I couldn’t even answer the phone right away. I started kind of shaking and I had tears in my eyes. It just is such a surreal moment and your dreams are coming true since – you think about it since you were a little kid, so it’s pretty cool.”

On if she got advice from her older sister [Houston Dash midfielder Marisa Viggiano]:

“Yes, for sure. We’ve been training together this offseason, so I was able to soak up as much information as she had for me over that time. She told me, ‘Keep working hard, listen to those around you because you want to learn as much as you can in those situations’. So, I feel like just working hard, listening and trying my best.”

On being competitive with her sister:

“No, we definitely challenge each other and are also so supportive of each other, so even though there’s competition in our family among us, it honestly always relates back to us wanting the best for each other and really supporting each other. She basically told me, if you aren’t drafted, it’s not going to define you, but if you are drafted, it’s obviously a great accomplishment but don’t let that decision on draft day define you.”

On the position she has played:

“I played a lot of attacking mid. I played a little bit of forward, more like a winger role in college. I feel like prior to college, it was a lot more attacking mid positions, but it definitely has been more of the attacking roles over the years than defensive.”

On looking forward to having midfielder Rose Lavelle, fellow University of Wisconsin-Madison player, in preseason training:

“Yes, I’m very excited and I feel like she’s just a great player to learn from, so I’m excited to be able to go from watching her to playing with her as well.”

On her impression of the first couple days of training:

“It’s definitely like a jump in the level of play, which is exciting to come into and be a new player and a part of that. But yeah, it’s just so exciting to be here and I’m so grateful to be here.”
